Central Texas Racing: Take Your Pick From Trail Races to Good Old-Fashioned 5Ks

Spring in Central Texas has been surprisingly mild — cool mornings and highs in the 80s. Of course, that will change soon, but why not take advantage of area races before it gets really hot? Here are some upcoming events to choose from.

Come together as a community to honor, remember, and celebrate our heroes. Run the Freedom 5K Veterans Tribute on Saturday May 17 at 8:00 a.m. at Walton Hoffmann Memorial American Legion Post 179 in New Braunfels.

You can also honor a coach, mentor, or teacher who made the biggest impact on your life by running the Jackalope Run 5K on Saturday May 17 at 7:00 a.m. at Lehman High School in Kyle. Dogs are welcome and race entry is free!

Take your distance pick at the Luau 5K, 10K, & Half Marathon at Bohls Park, Pflugerville on Saturday, May 24 at 8:00 a.m. The flat course is an out-and-back route within Bohls Park. (5K does the course two times.10K does the course four times. Half Marathon does the course six times).

Go long or short at the River’s Edge Trail Race 50K, 25K, 10M, 5M, 1M trail run on Saturday, May 24 at the Katy Trailhead at San Gabriel Park in Georgetown. Race starts are from 7:30–8:30 a.m. The gentle mostly flat single track dirt trails linking multiple beautiful parks together, hug the banks of the San Gabriel River along the scenic San Gabriel Trail.

Who doesn’t love Maudie’s Moonlight Margarita Run 5K? This evening run at Auditorium Shores in Austin is set for 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 5. The course runs along the streets adjacent to the Lady Bird Lake trail. Registration includes entry into the finish line party at Auditorium Shores: Maudie’s Tex-Mex Nacho Bar, Margarita bars, live music, activations, and more. An assortment of non-alcoholic drinks and water will also be available. All food and beverages are complimentary with your race entry.

Run through the night at the Capt’n Karl’s Trail Series — Pedernales Falls 60K, 30K, 20K, 10K, 5K trail run at Pedernales Falls State Park along the Pedernales River. The single track trails are hilly, steep & rocky! Races start from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Want to run a good old fashioned Texas 5K? The Old Town Street Festival 5K on Saturday, June 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Old Town Leander fills the bill. The chip-timed event starts in the heart of Old Town and tours through the streets of Leander. The course is flat and fast with no hills or rough terrain.
