In past years, the summer race calendar would dry up along with the rain as Austin’s heat index reigned supreme. Not so much these days. A peek at upcoming races in August and September tells the full story.
Capt’n Karl’s Trail Series 60K, 30K, 20K, 10K, 5K trail runs take place on August 9 through August 10 at Reveille Peak Ranch. The park is located 55 miles northwest of Austin in the historic town of Burnet. The rugged course has single track, exposure, tree-covered woods, hills and technicality.
Head out to Murphy Park in Taylor for Michelle’s Hot Peeps Beat CC 5K on Saturday, August 9 at 7:30 a.m. Beat the heat with this early morning start and afterwards, enjoy free snow cones provided by Kona Ice along with music and entertainment by Music Machine.
Buda has grown exponentially over the past decade and so has its racing scene. Off to the Races 5K will take place at Sunfield Elementary School at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16. The race features a fun course through the beautiful Sunfield neighborhood.

Some have called it “the running of the tribes.” It may still be over 100 degrees outside, but the upcoming Zilker Relays reminds us that fall is indeed coming. Created by runner Paul Perrone 20 years ago, the event is set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening September 5th. In case you’ve never run it, it’s a 10-mile relay race in Zilker Park. Teams are comprised of four runners, each running a 2.5-mile loop from one central festival/transition area.
The Gruene 10K/5K, set for Saturday, September 13 at 7:30 a.m. is a great old-time race in the heart of historic Gruene. The scenic rolling course starts and finishes at Gruene Hall. Once you cross the finish line, stick around and celebrate with an ice-cold Shiner beer!
